How to Install UKUI (UbuntuKylin Desktop) in Ubuntu 16.10, 17.04

Moving from Windows? UKUI is one of the Linux desktop environments that offers Windows 7 look like desktop appearance.

UKUI is the default lightweight desktop environment for Ubuntu Kylin. It provides a simpler and more enjoyable experience for browsing, searching, and managing your computer.

UKUI is developed by Ubuntu Kylin, an official Ubuntu flavor for Chinese. The desktop is forked from the MATE desktop (itself a fork from GNOME2) and will be default in Ubuntu Kylin 17.04.

Ubuntu 16.10 and Ubuntu 17.04 users can try this desktop using the PPA repository via following steps:

1. Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the command to add PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntukylin-members/ukui

2. Then update package index and install the UKUI desktop:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install ukui-desktop ukui-desktop-environment

Once installed, log out and select log back with the UKUI session in Unity Greeter.
