Looking for an application to download videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and/or other video sites? Well, ClipGrab is a free and simple tool to do this in Linux, Windows, and OS X.
ClipGrab supports downloading videos from YouTube, Vimeos, Dailymotion, Metacafe, and many other online video sites. It also features:
- search videos on YouTube
- convert videos to MPEG4, MP3, and other formats
- system notification support
- monitor clipboard for downloadable videos.
Install ClipGrab in Ubuntu 16.04, 14.04:
ClipGrab offers a non-install version available in the link below.
Just download, make executable (from its Properties -> Permissions window), and finally run it from its context menu.
Tip: For those who don’t see the Run option, go to File browser Menu Edit -> Preferences -> Behavior -> check “Run executable text file when they are opened”.
To install ClipGrab with a launcher shortcut:
Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the commands below one by one to install ClipGrab from its official PPA repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:clipgrab-team/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install clipgrab
Finally launch the software from Unity Dash / App Launcher and enjoy!

It is a free cloud based software to download videos, compatible with Ubuntu, windows and mac. Share it here as an alternative to clipgrab.
